The Movie Draft
The Movie Draft is a fun and engaging mix of fantasy sports and movie trivia. Sean Fennessey and Amanda Dobbins of The Big Picture podcast are the creators. The ultimate goal of a Movie Draft is to learn about new titles, discover new friends that like the same films that you do, and celebrate what we love about the movies.
The Rules
- A theme is established in advance. This can be anything:
- Specific year
- Director
- Actor
- Players or teams will pick movie titles from the pool of options within the theme:
- Players will pick movies for predetermined categories:
- Drama
- Action/Horror/Thriller
- Blockbuster (Grossing over $100 million)
- Oscar Nominee
- Comedy
- Wild Card
- Once a movie is chosen, the drafting player or team should discuss why they chose that title.
- Once a movie is chosen, that title can’t be chosen in another category by another team.
- The draft order is determined by placing all players or names into a hat and picking at random.
- The picking order is a snake format: titles are chosen first to last, then last to first. The end positions pick twice in a row.
- There is no clear winner with the Movie Draft. Once all rosters are set, each team will recap their picks and establish why their team is the best.
Jeopardy! Movie Edition
Order will be drawn randomly.
- 30 seconds to answer.
- If correct, you gain the points and turn passes to the next person.
- If incorrect, the next team will be given a chance to answer until 1. a correct answer is given or 2. all teams have attempted to answer.
- Four Double Jeopardy questions where points can be doubled.
- One surprise question with added stakes!
- Ties are decided by a pre-determined question in a sealed envelope.
- Final Jeopardy question category will be revealed to all at same time.
- Teams will bet points up to their current total, and keep this amount to themselves
- Everyone will answer Final Jeopardy question and then reveal their bet point total.
- Team with most points left at the end will be declared the winner.
