There is a point between the buzzing excitement of starting something new and the encroaching feeling of routine. At this moment, we as people often lose interest.
This happens to all of us. We buy camping gear because summer is coming, only to have the tent and sleeping bags sit in the closet.
Board games, clothes, running: whatever “it” is, these are things we find ourselves thrown into. Eventually, they fade from focus.
Right now, getting people together out of the house can be hard. Meeting new people is challenging. Sharing things they like can also be difficult. This idea can be scary and exciting for everyone.
That’s what made our first meeting on February 5th so special. We had over ten people gather to discuss the movies we love. We drafted Amblin movies and had passionate debates over current films and celebrated our beloved favorites.
I have heard from several people that are watching Oscar nominated movies because of the group.
Anytime for any reason that people connect or explore art that they wouldn’t otherwise is a beautiful thing.
So let’s keep the momentum and good energy going.
On Thursday March 12th, we will be meeting once again at Rockville Public Library at 6:00 PM. That following Sunday are the Academy Awards.
A truly exciting few days for movie lovers in this community!
At the meeting, we will discuss this year’s nominees. We will also look back on the decade so far to create a Top Ten. Then, we will have an early look at the 2027 ceremony.
We will also have an open forum for hot takes, recently watched, and things you are looking forward to.
Lastly, I will be able to give an update on potential community screenings happening later this year.
Thank you to everyone for keeping the spirit of cinema alive in our neighborhoods, and for helping to grow this group.
So, please, choose your seat. The show is about to start.
