Balance.
Insert your favorite analogy here: balance beam, tight rope, edge of a cliff. All point to the same thing: finding the ability to do multiple things at once, regardless the risk.
This group has been the best kind of tremendous distraction.
Like the way you start to dream of a cheeseburger and a Coke after a long day at the beach.
For me, I live for the moments when I have a focused conversation at work. I’m present. Fully “there”. Then, my mind starts to drift.
I think about Whalefall, and how gravity works inside of the massive mammal. Just this morning I scrambled to find a Post-It while shaving to write down an idea for our December meeting.
My advice to you, if you’ve read this far (and if you have THANK YOU), is to get involved in things that you love. Connect with others, share your passions, and see what happens.
The world needs people together in community spaces, swapping stories, and eating popcorn in movie theater seats.
This group is now closing out our 10th month, and there has never been more going on. Read on to see what is new:
Secret Screening Series
On October 17th, we hosted our first “Secret Screening Series” film at Rockville Public Library. The day was a tremendous success.
The first film was Wes Anderson’s 2009 animated masterpiece Fantastic Mr. Fox. We chose this movie for the importance of well adapted screenplays, brilliant animation, and for the film’s ability to work for everyone in the audience.
A very special thank you to Matthew Leonard of Lionheart Puppet Company for leading an informative and tremendously interactive discussion on Stop Motion Animation in film history.
Our next screening is scheduled for November 12th at 6:00 PM.

Remember, Remember the 5th of November

October Film Donations
Each month, as part of our recurring book and film display at Rockville Public Library, RFS makes a film donation to the greater community collection.
In October, we made two contributions: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Scott Pilgrim is a cultural milestone for millennials. We were introduced to a diverse cast of future Academy Award winners, superheroes, and one Allan. The visual storytelling style of Edgar Wright is unique and has gone on to inspire countless film makers sense.
Eternal Sunshine is a serious Jim Carrey going toe to toe with one of the best to ever grace a film screen, Kate Winslet (who was nominated for Best Actress). The themes of heartbreak, loss, and overcoming grief are weaved into a fabric of non-linear storytelling.
This film is important because of the deeply involved, Academy Award winning screenplay that never loses sight of what the audience should feel and not just see.

Agawam Cinemas Donation
Agawam Cinemas, a tremendous independent theater in Agawam, Massachusetts, recently experienced a large projection equipment failure. In order to offset the large expense, they issued a fundraising call.
With a single donation, you are able to customize a wall tile in their cinema, complete with name, scene from your favorite movie, and a quote.
As a group, we purchased one square, with many members purchasing several of their own.
Independent theater in America is a critical piece of artistic, cultural, and financial importance. If you have now read this far (an even larger THANK YOU), please consider contributing yourself.
November Library Display Poll
Our November Library display poll is now live! Please vote for your top three that you want represented in our exhibition.
Many tremendously popular movies are celebrating anniversaries this month (Space Jam is 30!? What!?). With a wide array of films premiering in November, this is shaping up to be our most diverse and interesting set yet!
