12 Most Anticipated Power Rankings Through End of 2026: Week 4

“I. Am. Iron Man”

As if things weren’t already feeling pre-Covid at the cinema, we have a new weekly box office champion.

It’s not Heart of the Beast, or Coyote vs. Acme. Nor is it even a new comic book movie.

Nope. The number one movie in the world is Avengers: Endgame…Encore.

With several new scenes added to the end, Encore sets up the impending doom that comes with the complete collapse of the Multiverse.

That’s on brand for late September however. Typically this slot is reserved for lackluster horror, sequels, rereleases, and the start of awards season.

This weekend last year, we saw the opening of One Battle After Another take the top spot. Also in the top 10, were rereleases of previous Spider-Men movies and

This fall continues to look promising, and feeds off of the early success that this year has given us.

Most Anticipated Releases Through End of 2026

With the premiere of Primetime, our list loses a title that had been solidly in the top 10 for the first three weeks. Primetime, directed by Lance Oppenheim and starring Robert Pattinson, may be gone, but the director and star are still represented on the power rankings.

More on that later though.

Biggest Losers of the Week

Titles dropping off of the power rankings include Victorian Psycho and Artificial. The Victorian Psycho trailer is manic Jane Austen-esque mayhem and I am here for it. Hype was high coming off of the first viewing of said sizzle reel prior to Resident Evil, and has since dissipated.

Artifical is a compelling story. Originally produced at Amazon/MGM, the studio dumped the movie, seemingly related to the agreement between the studio and OpenAI. Andrew Garfield stars in Artificial as Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, and centers on the executives firing and rehiring in 2023.

The Debut dropped 11 spots from 4th place in week 3 to out of the rankings this week. Very simply, and not a reflection of the film quality, we will see more of this one. Not only will there be a late October surge (unless reviews seriously drop off), but this will likely garner Julianne Moore a Best Actress Oscar nomination.

Biggest Winners of the Week

New to the power rankings this week are two new titles: Other Mommy and The Cat in the Hat.

Other Mommy, if you have not seen the buzziest, jumpiest trailer of the year, save yourself the surprise. Other Mommy is sure to be a massive hit for Blumhouse.

The Cat in the Hat is a personal pick, motivated by my unabashed fandom of Bill Hader, and the comic novelty of the titular Cat. My kids loved the Martin Short voiced series, and this will be a lovely day out for the family.

You Can See Everything, the surprise documentary from director Lance Oppenheim, swept across Telluride and opens at the New York Film Festival on September 30th. Nathan Fielder is the other mind behind the picture, and is body of work tells us that this will be anything but straight forward.

Neither is Elizabeth Holmes though, so it works.

For the first time, we have a repeat title at the top of the Power Rankings. The Social Reckoning, for anyone who loves movies about people talking, will be like the Super Bowl.

Aaron Sorkin (see A Few Good Men, The Social Network, The West Wing) penned the screen play and is directing, his first time in that chair since 2021’s Being the Ricardos.

Biggest Takeaways

October is likely to see these rankings shift several times. As festival films start to roll out across the country, and we move closer to end of the year blockbusters, attention will be spread.
